During your visit, your provider may recommend and order imaging. Common studies would include CT scans, MRI scans, ultrasounds and modified barium swallow studies. Your provider will review the type of testing, the reasons for imaging, and the intended outcomes from the test results.
When imaging is ordered, all study orders are submitted to the chosen facility. Many insurance carriers require pre-authorization be obtained and sent with the order. When required by your insurance, authorization often requires 3-5 days to process. Please allow our office 7-10 business days to process your child’s order and obtain necessary authorization. We are glad to send you a copy of the completed order electronically by sending a message through the patient portal.
After receiving your child’s order, the facility will reach out to you directly to schedule. If you have not been contacted within 10-14 business days of your child’s visit with us, please reach out to the facility directly to schedule. Unfortunately, our office is unable to schedule your child’s study.

ALL patients who have undergone CT, MRI of ultrasound are required to bring a physical copy of the imaging results to your follow up appointment. Unfortunately, our office staff does not have access to this information. Only the facility performing your exam and your insurance company will have access to and provide this information to you.
The facility will also be able to provide you with a CPT (or procedure) code that corresponds with the type of study being done. We recommend calling your insurance company directly with this code. They will be able to provide you with the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding benefits, coverage, and cost.
The order for your child’s study will be sent to the most appropriate of our partnered facilities. This decision will be made based on a few different factors including: provider preference, insurance eligibility, pre-authorization requirements and study type.
